Nozomu and Kelly visit Skeppsholmen

Part of my volunteer work with AFS (the foreign exchange organisation I went to Japan with) is being a "fadder kompis".  Basically I'm an exchange student's official friend! So today me and my friend, Nozomu from Japan, went to my favorite island in Stockholm, Skeppsholmen!

La Villa de Smisk! Part 1, Kitchen

For those of you who are curious what my new place looks like here's your chance to visit virtually! We'll start with the kitchen today... because it was the cleanest.

Maybe it doesn't look that clean... that's cause I was making food!

Distant (timewise) relatives

My mom sent me a photo of Nils Julius Söderström, the owner of the
notebook from 1894 from a previous post (Gottne).
Here's a photo of his wife, Maria Andersdotter Söderström.
Andersdotter means the daughter of Anders!

Rat Attack!

WOAH! Just saw a rat running around on my terrace.

I considered giving him to food to get him closer to the camera
but decided maybe that wasn't a good idea.

Rabbit attack!

Today we fed some bunnies (those black spots in the pic!) that have taken
over the Stockholm island of Kungsholmen.
We had a real bunny friendly smorgasbord, lettuce, carrots, and bread.
One rabbit was clearly the boss. He was also the least afraid.

We taught him tricks...
All the other rabbits were black.
Carrots were a big hit.
Bread wasn't bad either,
Here comes a theif...

But then the boss came over and stole the stolen goods.

Grinda, an island in the Stockholm archipelago

After 2 hours on this boat we got to Grinda!

We found this sign about Grinda's compost toilets. Click for detail and see my
translations of the funny pictures.

We ran into some goats while walking around...

Then it was time for lunch. We climbed some rocks and ate.
After we walked around and admired the scenery...

Then we sat and waited for the boat to take us back to big city life!

Old pocket watches found in a dresser drawer

This is an old notebook I found in the same bureau. It says "Nils Julius Söderström is the rightful owner of this book, 1894" He was my Great Great Grandfather, my Mom's Mom's Dad's Dad!

From my Great Grandfathers highschool grades.
"Rules för school youths.
1. Behavior in the home.
Help your parents! Be nice to your brothers and sisters! Make your parents happy!
2. Behavior in the school.
Show respect and obedience to your teachers! Observe the school rules! Carry out all your school work meticulously! Do not destroy or write on the schools belongings! Confess your offense, and never let someone else be punished in your place! Be polite and friendly with your school mates! Do not show malice during play! Do not laugh at your school mates and do not give them nicknames!"
